OPTIMIX has been providing HKHA projects with various products for their estate improvement programme and in-flat maintenance services, thus providing a safe and comfy living environment for the residents and extending the life of the building. Recently we supplied Prebatched Concrete and Skimcoat to Tin Shui Estate, Tin Shui Wai for building improvements and units repair:     1. The repair in rooftop water tanks requires concrete stumps, yet due to the location being a rooftop and material consumption is rather limited, using a concrete truck is not cost and time effective. Therefore, the contractor chose the OPTIMIX PC30 Prebatched Concrete (Standard) in 40kg bag. This product complies with Hong Kong Buildings Department Code of Practice for Structural Use of Concrete 2013, and also attained the mix ID from Public Works Laboratories under CEDD, which allows us to supply this product to HKHA projects anytime. What's so special about prebatched concrete is that, other than no location restriction, the quality of concrete is consistent and stable, greatly enhancing the project's flexibility, including but not limited to costs and working time.         2. The vacant premises in the estate require interior wall and ceiling plaster finish, the contractor adopted OPTIMIX SC273 Skimcoat (Putty for Paint), replacing the traditional lime putty with unstable quality. Our special formula makes it easy to polish and allows a highly efficient and time-saving application. Situated in Hong Kong West Kowloon Cultural District, the construction of main building of M+ Museum has been completed and is expected to open towards the end of 2021. Neighboring the Victoria Harbor, the museum has 18 storeys with a gross area of 650,000 sq ft., which includes an exhibition center of 170,000 sq ft. The building houses multiple exhibition halls, theaters, research centers and a rooftop garden that captures the scenic view of Victoria Harbor.   The M+ Museum is designed by the world-renowned architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron collaborating with TFP Farrells and Arup, being the world’s second largest contemporary visual culture museum after The Centre Pompidou in Paris in 1977.   Fully supporting this benchmark project, OPTIMIX has supplied M+ with our comprehensive product range including Base Plaster, Skimcoat, Tile Adhesive, Tile Grout, Floor Screed and Non-shrink Grout.   Other than the green building designs in areas outside the exhibits, the major energy-saving design is applied to the collection area in the building, in order to realize the goal of preserving exhibits sustainably.  When building the M+ Museum, the Hong Kong construction environment assessment specification BEAM Plus is followed, dedicated to not only sustainability but also practicality. Integrated Sustainable Building Design (ISBD) has also been an essential part in the M+ design process. Link's Central Walk in Shenzhen, a refurbishment project under Link REIT, is slated to return to the market with a brand new image when it completes asset enhancement in July 2021.   The new space will be upgraded to suit current market's need for aesthetics, practicality and comfortability as a modern hub for shopping, recreation, and everyone's go-to spot in leisure.   The project has chosen OPTIMIX to supply WP533L, TA312, TA313, TG410E as waterproofing slurry and tile adhesives & grout. WP533L is semi-flexible which provides a reliable waterproof barrier and this product complies to China National Standard GB/T 23445 Type II.   We look forward to meeting the new Central Walk in July!

OPTIMIX is pleased to co-host a collaborative seminar and workshop with Career Support Services of Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) at Sheung Shui campus in early February. It was an educational experience for us to meet the new faces of construction industry and introduce them into the world of dry mortar – a convenient, easy and environmentally friendly way to satisfy various cementitious applications.   Moreover, it was also a hands-on practical experience for the students to try our Base Plaster, Masonry Mortar and Tile Adhesive which are extensively used in the market. From there they could experience the strengths and benefits of dry mortars.   Rather than solely focusing on product development and sales, OPTIMIX also highlights the importance of education for the future of construction industry and bringing in new forces.

When we complete the process of tiling on a substrate and have reserved the joints between tiles, it is time for us to do grouting of joints.   While there are arrays of tile grouting or sealing products out in the market, have you ever wondered which choice would be the best?   Other than longevity, durability and appearance, we also have to bear eco-friendliness in mind. Partial amount of unqualified two-component tile sealants are composed of a high level of organic compounds which emit carcinogens such as formaldehyde and increase the carbon footprint.   Grouting powder is a safe, non-toxic, eco-friendly and ideal option to fill tile joints, with an ultra-easy application process.     Mix one bag of tile grout dry powder with potable water in accordance with the suggested water demand to achieve the desired consistency. Mechanical mixing with a slow speed drill and paddle is recommended. Apply the powder to the water and mix for about 5 minutes or until a lump free homogeneous mix is achieved. Allow the mix to stand for 3 minutes and mix briefly again just before use.     Apply the OPTIMIX TG410E using a rubber squeegee or rubber trowel to fill the joints in a diagonal motion. Vary the direction of the trowel passing over the same joint a few times and use light trowel pressure.     Once the grout surface begins to dry, then the grout and the surrounding tile surface can be cleaned. This should be done at regular intervals during the installation using a damp cloth or sponge.   Joints can be further smoothed using a gloved finger or with a pointing tool.   Then voila! It is done! OPTIMIX TG410E is a decorative high quality polymer modified cementitious mortar for tile grouting and joint filling. The product is strong, hard wearing and waterproof. It complies with the highest level of EN 13888 CG2 WA.
